A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
