Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
