Disturbing Find: Bodies of Missing Mother and Child Located in Freezers in the Alpine Nation

The remains of a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been discovered inside freezing appliances in an flat in western Austria.

The victims, a Syrian woman and her child, who had been unaccounted for for a number of months, were detected on the end of last week. The freezers were placed behind a false wall in the flat, located in the Innsbruck area.

A pair of males, a Austrian man, 55 and his 53-year-old brother, were arrested in June. The 55-year-old, a work associate of the Syrian woman, informed authorities last week that there had been an unfortunate event—but disputed murder.

Speaking to journalists earlier, a official for the legal authorities stated the two suspects were being detained on "serious suspicion of murder".

Personal details of those concerned have not been released by authorities, in accordance with Austrian law.

The vanishing of the mother and child was initially flagged by the cousin of the mother, who resides in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Authorities said the male associate told them at the time she had embarked on an long journey with her child to see her family in Turkey.

The victim's bank card was then discovered to be utilized abroad repeatedly.

However when investigators examined the victim's residence, her mobile phone was located.

A witness also claimed listening to a commotion in the flat, and cries of "mama" on the day the pair were believed to have vanished.

A broader police investigation was launched, with investigators discovering various messages originating from the woman's phone—among them a resignation letter to her employer and texts to the male colleague.

Officials said a four-figure sum was also moved to the individual.

Katja Tersch told reporters on Tuesday that a rented space had been secured before the mother and child went missing and a cooling unit had been positioned inside.

The brothers took out the cooling unit from the unit on the day the mother and daughter disappeared, she stated. And a seven days after, they purchased a second unit.

Authorities say they believe this points to the demise were premeditated.

"The reason for their demise could not be determined due to the state of decomposition of the victims," the official commented.

Mayr—representing the state—noted the specific order of occurrences is yet to be determined, but the remains were carefully placed and went unnoticed during a prior examination.

Although the men were arrested in June, it was not until the 12th of November that the suspect confessed to an incident and to storing the victims. He rejects any murderous intent, authorities stated.

In a related development, his brother admitted to a concealment but denied knowledge of a murder.

The brothers are at this time in pre-trial detention in jails in Innsbruck and Salzburg, situated at a distance.

Through a combined announcement, Austria's Minister for Women and the top legal representative said the "alleged double murder... constitutes the swift and cruel conclusion of two human lives and exposes a cruel system".

"Women and girls are being murdered due to the simple reality that they are female," they went on to say.

"Femicides are a profoundly embedded and issue affecting all of society that we must address decisively."
