President Trump Invites Families of Injured Guard Personnel to White House

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.

He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

White House Offer

The president explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Response

Mourners came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to assist people.”

Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Government Revisions

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The event caused the government to suspend asylum applications and halt granting visas to holders of travel documents.

Status of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
