Star Denies Anti-Vaxxer Position After Voicing Contentious Pandemic Documentary
Liam Neeson has provided his narration to a new documentary that casts doubt on the safety of vaccines and lauds one-time cabinet secretary the political figure.
The Film's Provocative Origins
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is inspired by a bestselling book written by Judy Mikovits, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for allegations that the illness was linked to a bad strain of the flu vaccine.
Her collaborator, a producer, has penned books with conspiracy-prone figure Alex Jones. The producer wrote online celebrating Neeson's involvement in the film.
A Firm Statement
Representatives for Neeson have provided a statement pushing back against claims that he supports anti-immunization views.
"Everyone can recognize that misconduct can exist within the drug industry, but that cannot be confused with opposition to vaccines," the statement explains. "Liam never has been, and cannot be described as, anti-vaccination. His considerable work with the UN children's agency reinforces his long-held support for public-health initiatives."
It continued that the performer had no hand in the project's messaging and that inquiries about its assertions ought to go to the filmmakers.
Central Claims Within the Feature
According to the documentary, the voiceover provided by Neeson makes several provocative claims:
- It claims that pro-vaccine voices have called for "unconditional submission" to public institutions.
- It posits that "science has become dangerously politicized."
- Kennedy is interviewed stating, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they simply are not safely tested."
- It further attacks pandemic restrictions, arguing they caused mental anguish that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- On the topic of Covid vaccines, it cites a perspective that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "risky trials."
Previous Background and Recent Disputes
The film also references a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was later the focus of a correction by the network for violations of guidelines.
Last month, Kennedy instructed the CDC to change its longstanding position that there is no connection between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This supposed link is also referenced in the film, contrary to a new report from the WHO reiterating no evidence has been found.
An Earlier Statement of Advocacy
Standing in contrast to the documentary's message, Neeson has formerly voiced clear advocacy for vaccines in his role as a Unicef global ambassador.
Previously, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary achievement," adding that "The discourse about vaccines in recent years has lost sight of how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in history."
The documentary concludes with Neeson's voice proclaiming, "This isn't the finish of our journey. Rather, it is the dawn of a new chapter."
