The athlete entered the previous US Open as the 26th seed.

The tennis professional disclosed he thought about ending his career because of severe back issues throughout the 2025 tennis year.

At 27 years old, the player once ranked as high as third globally, was a finalist to Novak Djokovic at both the 2021 French Open alongside the 2023 Australian Open.

Now ranked as the world's 36th best player after a limited schedule since his second-round departure in New York this past summer, he stated that ongoing treatment has begun yielding positive results.

"My greatest anticipation lies in seeing how my training responds during actual training with regard to my back," commented Tsitsipas.

"My primary worry was whether I could complete a match," the athlete continued, explaining the pain plagued him "over the last six to eight months."

"I kept asking, 'Am I able to play another contest without discomfort?'"

"It was genuinely scary following the loss at the US Open [to Germany's Daniel Altmaier]. I could not to move for 48 hours. That is the moment begin to question the path ahead."

Tsitsipas further mentioned satisfaction regarding his current recovery plan after finishing an extended period of off-season preparation without any pain.

He is scheduled to compete for Greece in the United Cup, drawn against Team Japan led by Osaka and the Great Britain squad led by Emma Raducanu. The competition will be held across Australian cities from 2 to 11 January, the week preceding the season's first major.

"My main goal next season would be to not have concerns about finishing matches," he expressed.

"It is incredibly encouraging realizing you had an off-season in good health – I hope it continues. I aim to perform during the upcoming season and for the United Cup.

"I have done the work. The most important thing is complete faith in my ability to get back to my previous level. I will try all means to make it happen."
