The Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I want up in that moment except for George Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, are still the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he remarked.
Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
