Triple award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Triple NBA MVP Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent contact with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, and he immediately went down to the ground clutching his knee.
The veteran player, who tops the NBA this season in boards and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to incurring the setback.
The player will have an scan on Tuesday to assess the severity of the injury.
"Immediately, he realized he was hurt," commented Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I'm focused primarily about Jokic personally and the letdown of experiencing something like that."
